The Cabins at Cama Beach

Cama Beach State Park is on the southwest shore of Camano Island facing Saratoga Passage.

Barb's Visit

Drying kelp. Hmmmm..... I'll pass!

At Cama Beach, just south of the cabins

Barb's Visit

Toby, just takin' it all in

Ok.. its a wall. But how cool is this wall?

The Herron (Satch. . . I've been corrected. I now realize that this is not a Crane... See what happens when you let new people on the Island? We go around renaming everything )...wouldn't let us get any closer

Barb's Visit

Dana, Barb & Robbie. . . Morning hike.

The tide was so low, it looked like you could walk to the bottom of Fidalgo Island (provided you had some serious hip-waders)

Not sure about THAT water. . .

Unknown Bird

This photo was taken from the deck early Sunday morning. It was taken with the 70-300 zoom so he is acutally bigger than he looks... probably about 8 or 9 inches. He looks like a cross between some sort of a Jay and a Junco.... Couldn't find this guy in our bird book. Satch? What do you think?

Satch's reply: "Not too many years ago it was called a Rufous-sided Towhee; now, since the name change, it's called a Spotted Towhee. It's one of our resident birds (one of my favorites) and I am still amazed at its variety of calls that seem to change with the seasons. You'll see it frequently scratching through leaves and debris below shrubs around the perimeter of your yard. It you get a really close look, and the sun hits it just right, you'll see a fiery-red eye. Watch for a flash of white in the tail when it takes flight. I'm thinking you probably noticed that already because it shares that similarity with a junco. On a male, the head and other dark parts are black; the female is more brown. You'll see/hear them all year long...enjoy... the island has an abundance of them."

After a Long Week . . . .

This photo was taken from the dining room at about 10:00 pm. We finally had a nice breeze to cool off the 80 degree day. After a long work-week, coming home to find deer and an eagle in the yard was a great way to feel separated from the weekly grind. . . not to mention the commute!
Carnations in bloom.

Two young Black-tail bucks. This photo was taken from the back yard at about 7:00 in the evening. They didn't seem to mind the photo-shoot... they resumed their munching after posing.

We heard him screetching from the living room. The crows in the tree were having a fit. Its difficult to tell how HUGE this jumbo-jet of a Bald Eagle was, but as he sat in the tree and the breeze blew him, his feathers lifted off of his back like long hair in the wind. . . giving him the impression of wearing a long fur coat.

"Life's a Beach" . . I know, that was too cliche'

Took an early morning drive down to the Maple Grove boat launch. Inundated with 3/4 ton pick-up's pulling boats dangling crab pots, nets, and floats. I think someone forgot the drawn butter and crab-crackers!!

Peaceful Morning

Looking at Utsalady Point from the Buena Vista Beach area at Utsalady Bay

Mmmmmmm.

A Sunday evening sunset.

Failure to Launch?

These two "baby" eagles look huge. We're thinking they're probably hangin' around the house, up to no good, eating everything in the nest, not cleaning up after themselves. . . you know . . . teenagers!

Just a log.

Ok, just a FEW logs.

Saturday Afternoon

From the side deck, looking up the hill. . .Playing with the new wide angle lens.
Looking out from the deck above the water. Polarizing filter.

We've moved to "The Island"... Now What?

I've been told by lots of people who DON'T live on Camano Island that I don't "really" live on an island. Most of these nay-sayers live on Whidbey. However, every time I pass over Davis Slough I look for water. . . just to make sure they're wrong.

By creating this blog, we hope to share many exciting and new "Island" advantures with those of you who've never been to Camano Island, as well as with those of you who've lived here for many years.
